Is there any ‘back yard’ car manufacturers or small scale manufacturers?

just the usual, Caterham 7 lookalikes, Cobra replicas, GT40 replicas plus Bolwell.
nothing really substantial, any of them realistically could close up overnight and we wouldn’t notice

It, however, is the most popular non-truck in the US market.
And it’s the very definition of beige in automotive form.

That sucks for all the people getting laid off, I can certainly sympathize with them.

Oh, I’ve heard of the Camry. We had it until the early 2000s when it became too big and too Americanised for us, also they decided it would be a good idea to stop selling diesel ones.
I was thinking about what I now see is the second of the two cars Toyota Oz made, the Aurion.

Ah, that thing.
It’s basically the same thing as a Camry, with a fascia swap, and higher trim levels. (In fact, in other markets that get it, it’s called the “prestige Camry”.)
Of course, then there’s the TRD Aurion, which was a Aurion V6 (which in the US would be roughly equivalent to a Camry XSE V6 - the “sporty” loaded V6 - I think)... with a supercharger added. (The only other factory supercharged applications of the 2GR-FE are the Lotus Exige and Evora.)

Tomcar. And the odd military grade supplier. Plus there’s more than a few component makers such as the mob that make virtually all of the door hinge holder widgets for everyone everywhere. And Nissan still have their aluminium casting plant here too.

I’ve never heard of Bolwell before. The MKVII seems like it was relatively successful.

Why are so many car companies closing in Australia? At this rate they better start learning how to drive a kangaroo

“October 3, 2017: Toyota’s last petrol Camry rolls off the Altona North production line”
Why is the petrol mentioned here? Are they still secretly making diesel Camrys somewhere?
